The ECB Level I course is the highest "entry level" course in the National Coaching Scheme.

Aims: To equip beginner coaches with skills and knowledge required to introduce and develop cricket amongst young people in an environment of safety and enjoyment.

Target Group: Introductory Award holders; Primary and Secondary Teachers; Club players (to included Women, Disabled, Ethnic groups); Other interested groups

Core Skills Learned: Child Protection; Emergency situations; Group Coaching - planning, delivery, evaluation; Net management; Code of Conduct; Planning and organisation; Testing [Kwick Cricket and Proficiency Awards]; Technical Modelling/ Demonstrations of basic skills; Games and drills; Basic umpiring

Attainment Targets: At the end of the course candidates will be able to:

Effectively introduce and develop cricket skills to young people using group coaching.
Plan and evaluate the above.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles and content of the ECB Coaches Code of Conduct.
Demonstrate or provide effective technical models of key cricket skills.
Understand the principles of Child Protection.
Understand the principles of working with children.
Understand the principle of Net Management.
Access and deliver a range of skill development drills and small sided games.
Umpire a small sided version of the game.

When: 14/15 February 2004 and 28/29 February 2004. (Prior to this, you will have attended a first aid course, a child protection course and have a CRB (police) check - all organised for you by WACC).

Where: Tidworth Leisure Centre.

What time: All day, for 4 days.

Further your education - Level 2...

Aims: The Level II course builds on the skills and knowledge acquired at Level I and develops further competencies in:

Technical modelling and demonstrations; Effective communication; Sport psychology, biomechanics and physiology; Net coaching; Using video to analyse performance; Immediate first aid.

Target Group: Level I Coaches - School and Club, Coaching Award holders - School and Club.

Core Skills Learned: Communication skills; Technical modelling and demonstration; Technical analysis of batting and bowling using videos and live; Emergency First Aid; Sport Science (Introduction); Effective Net Coaching; Use "Wagon Wheel" performance analysis system.

Attainment Targets: In addition to the competencies developed at Level I, by the end if this course, candidates will be able to:

Plan, deliver and evaluate net coaching sessions.
Demonstrate or provide effective technical models for an extended range of batting, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping skills.
Understand the basic principles of sport psychology, physiology and biomechanics.
Communicate more effectively in the 1:1 and group (team) environment.
Analyse the technique of basic batting and bowling from video.
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of using video technology.
Understand and apply simple performance profiling techniques.

Coach Development Workshops...

INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO ANALYSIS and INTRODUCTION TO NET COACHlNG...

When: 14th March 2004.

Where: Devizes Leisure Centre.

What time: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Morning session - Introduction to Net Coaching. A practically based, 2-3 hour workshop which explores the analytical and communication skills required to run effective and "safe" net sessions.

Aimed primarily at Level I coaches, this workshop builds on the knowledge of net management acquired at Level I and familiarises participants with other issues that are relevant to the net environment.

This is also a valuable "refresher for coaches at Level II, Senior Award or above.

Aims: To familiarise Level I coaches with aspects of working in the net environment, building on the knowledge acquired at Level I and using the analysis skills gained from the Introduction to Video Analysis module.

Programme Outline (3 hours):

Review of Level I "net management".
Discussion and feedback on "Why & How" of Net Coaching.
Demonstrations of effective, safe net coaching.
Candidate practice.
Alternative types of net.
Summary.

Afternoon session - Introduction to Video Analysis. A 3 hour and interactive workshop. This has video, lecture and group discussion, to introduce coaches to simple systems for the analysis of batting and bowling techniques.

Primarily designed to form a "bridge" between Level I and Level II, this workshop is particularly appropriate for Level I coaches. It also provides a valuable "refresher" for more experienced coaches, and is particularly effective when linked to the "Introduction to Net Coaching" module.

Aims: To develop the coach's ability to observe and evaluate the basic techniques of batting and bowling from video, thereby helping candidates to progress to Level II.

Programme Outline (3 hours):

The advantages and disadvantages of using video to analyse performance.
The benefits of structured observation.
The 5 basic bowling positions and revision of relevant batting skills.
Introduction to pro-formas and key image sheets.
Observation of videos.
Group discussion and feedback.

PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO COMMON PROBLEMS WORKSHOP (1)...

An enjoyable, needs analysed, interactive, activity based workshop designed to equip coaches with a range of effective methods for addressing organisational and technical "problems" commonly encountered by the Level I (Group coaching and small sided games) environment.

Targeted at the Level I coach, this workshop will provide challenges and solutions relevant to coaches of all levels who work with children and is 2 hours long.

Aims: To familiarise coaches with a range of effective and tested methods for addressing technical and organisational problems commonly encountered by coaches operating in the Level I (Group Coaching) environment.
